Dim Cadillac SRX Headlights
My headlights were very dim at night, I felt like shining a flashlight out the windshield would provide more light. On bright they were fine, but you can’t drive around with your headlights on bright all the time. For the record I never saw any moisture in my headlights to cause these problems.
In 2017 a class action lawsuit was filed for the reimbursement of expenses incurred making repairs to the headlights of 2010 – 2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles, but only applied to residents of Florida and California. Since I don’t live in either of those states and rarely drive at night, I decided to live with the problem.
That all changed one night driving home in the fog and rain. My husband was driving and could barely see the road. It was a very stressful drive for him. Thank God we didn’t have an accident. I got my smartphone out and ordered new headlights (driver & passenger side) from Amazon.com for $300.00 right then.
I had previously asked my local dealer for a replacement quote, just out of curiosity and they told me $1500.00 to $1600.00. I declined that offer. I had a body shop quote me $1100.00 and was leaning more towards that offer, but not in a hurry to do it.
In less than a week my new headlights arrived. That Saturday my husband and I found a YouTube video on how to change out the headlights. In less than two hours we took the bumper off, installed the new headlights and put the bumper back on. I ordered black headlights instead of the original chrome, because I thought they would look good on my Gray Flannel Metallic SRX. I think they look perfect, a very nice touch!
On a side note the Lane Departure Warning, where the seat alerts you by vibrating that you have left your lane, for the passenger side had stopped working. It started to work again after we put the bumper back on. Now I can see to drive at night and my Lane Departure Warning works for both sides.
The new headlights looked very similar to the original factory ones, possibly even came from the same manufacturer as OEM. It was amazing, the difference the new headlights made. I took before and after pictures of the headlights on the carport wall. The old headlights only let out a small sliver of light.
In February 2020 I received a letter from GM stating they would reimburse any prior out-of-pocket headlamp replacement costs for moisture-related issues and dimness issues caused by reflectors in 2010 – 2015 SRX vehicles equipped with Halogen headlamps. I sent them a copy of my little Amazon receipt. We will see if I get reimbursed for my $300.00.
If you own a 2010 – 2015 Cadillac SRX with Halogen headlamps and didn’t receive a letter about the headlamp reimbursement, you may want to contact your local dealer for more information.
If you prefer to fix it yourself, like we did. See the Amazon links below. Be sure to check that they fit your vehicle before finalizing your order. Also be aware they do not include bulbs, save the bulbs from your old headlamps.

UPDATE: I received a letter back from Cadillac. No surprise my claim was denied, due to Insufficient Documentation Provided. They want an invoice showing the repair work. Since my husband and I replaced the headlights ourselves with new headlights from Amazon, I don’t have an invoice. It was worth a try. I am glad I am only out $300 and I can drive my SRX at night again.
