Thinning Hair Women

All of a sudden I noticed my hair seemed to be thinning, shedding more than usual.  My doctor had told me I was in perimenopause.  So I figured it was due to hormones.

I had been taking Alpha-Lipoic Acid and had about five pills left out of thirty.  While looking on Amazon to purchase it again, I noticed in the reviews people saying it made their hair fall out!  I did some more research, people also reporting it caused hair loss on drugs.com.  I threw the rest of those pills away!

Now I am looking in the mirror thinking, oh no how much hair did I lose.  I swear I can see more scalp.  I take hair vitamins, but they can’t fix this alone.

In the past I tried Hair La Vie, but I have long hair, almost waist length.  At almost $50.00 for a month’s supply of shampoo and conditioner that was too expensive.  After one month I switched to L’Oreal Ever Strong Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner.  I believe the L’Oreal products were working until I took Alpha-Lipoic Acid.

So I started researching hair treatments and supplements to regrow my hair.

Now I am using Vitality Extracts Hair Envy essential oil blend.  I am seeing some new tiny hairs growing back in, but it is slow going.  Hair doesn’t seem to grow very fast when it is new.  I don’t care for the smell of Hair Envy, so I rub it on my scalp 10 – 15 minutes before I take a shower.

In my research I watched a video where a doctor was talking about saw palmetto, amino acids and other supplements helping regrow hair in women.  I can’t remember the name of the supplement he was promoting or all the ingredients.  I was already taking amino acids, so added saw palmetto to my regimen.

Please be aware saw palmetto has negative side effects per webmd.com.  I haven’t experienced anything yet…  I will say my scalp feels better, less itchy between washings.

While the hair vitamins, L’Oreal products and Hair Envy are all helping grow my hair back.  I may still have to seek professional advice, to make sure nothing else is going on.

I didn’t take photos, because personally I was embarrassed.  No one wants pictures of their thinning hair.

Please do your research before trying any supplements, internally and externally.

I am not a doctor and I don’t play one on TV. So in all seriousness please check with your doctor before you take any supplements. See my disclaimer page for more information. Also check out the side effects & safety of saw palmetto from webmd.com.
